What to Wear and Bring to Your Pilates Class

A gentle guide for arriving ready to move

Stepping into your first Pilates class — or even a new studio — can feel both exciting and unfamiliar. What do you wear? Do you need shoes? Should you bring anything?

At Aligna, we believe arriving to class should feel easy and supportive, never stressful. Whether you're joining us for Reformer, mat, or a restorative evening session, here’s everything you need to know to feel comfortable, confident, and at ease.

What to Wear

  • Comfortable, form-fitting clothes

Wear something you can move in — leggings, a fitted top, or a soft tank. Clothing that hugs your body (rather than loose or baggy) allows your instructor to see your alignment and helps you move with more awareness.

  • Light layers

Start with a cozy layer like a sweatshirt or wrap. You might warm up during class, but you'll appreciate the warmth during grounding moments or cool-downs — especially in our Relaxation & Recovery sessions.

  • Grippy socks (optional but encouraged)

While Pilates is typically done barefoot, grippy socks provide extra stability and hygiene — especially in Reformer classes.

What to Bring

  • A water bottle

Hydration supports your energy and recovery. Bring a reusable bottle — filtered water is available in all our studios.

  • A small towel

If you tend to sweat or just like the comfort of having a towel nearby, feel free to bring one along.

  • An open mind

This might sound simple, but it matters most. Each class is a new opportunity to reconnect with your body, your breath, and yourself. Come as you are — no pressure, no expectations.
